MSA Motorsport Medical Examination
MSA (Motor Sport Association) Medical, now formally known as Motorsports UK (MSUK) medical is a mandatory health assessment for drivers who are seeking to obtain or renew a competition licence. The assessment confirms the individual’s physical capability to race safely and is generally required for first-time applicants, individuals over the age of 45, and those applying for international licences.

Requirements for Motorsport UK Medicals
The requirements depend on the age and type of Licence.
For National Licence Applications
- Ages 14–44 - Vision test (required once unless vision changes)
- Ages 45–59 - Vision test ( required every 36 months)
- Ages 60 and over - Vision test , Doctor’s medical report and resting 12-lead ECG
Requirements for Motorsport UK Medicals

For International Licence Applications
- Ages 49 and under -Medical examination and vision test annually, Resting 12-lead ECG every 24 months
- Ages 50–74 - Medical examination and vision test annually, Stress ECG (exercise) every 24 months
- Ages 75 and above - Medical examination and vision test annually, Stress ECG (exercise) annually

Age-Related Renewals
- Under 55 - Usually required every three years.
- 55 to 69 - Often required annually, with an eye test every three years.
- 70 and Over - Full medical required annually for renewal.
- Medical History Review -Document any history of blackouts, seizures, or significant injuries.
ACU medical assessment typically involves assessing
- Vision: Report on distance vision (with or without glasses), visual acuity, and colour vision, as these are critical for assessing distance and track signals.
- Cardiovascular System: Record blood pressure, pulse, and heart sounds (using a stethoscope).
- Neurological Examination:Detail tests for reflexes, coordination, balance, and nerve function.
- Medication & Health Records: Clearly list all current medications, hospital consultants seen, and any ongoing conditions, ideally with a summary of letters from specialists
- Respiratory Function: Record lung capacity or any breathing issues noted via spirometry tests.
